Smooth Sailing at Sunset…

There is nothing more beautiful than the ocean as the sun begins to set.  Each sunset is a blessing to the eye and the sound of the waves a blessing to the ear.

But, the sea is not always calm… nor are our lives…

Who quiets the raging oceans?

You quieted the raging oceans
with their pounding waves
and silenced the shouting of the nations.
Those who live at the ends of the earth
stand in awe of your wonders.
From where the sun rises to where it sets,
you inspire shouts of joy.                 (Psalm 65:7:8 NLT)

David, who knew what it was like to face a raging storm, tells us that God quiets the storms in our lives.  And, we stand in awe of what He can do.

Who is this man?

Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.  The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!”        (Matthew 8:26-27 NLT)

As the disciples faced a storm on the Sea of Galilee, they went to Jesus.  He rose from his sleep and questioned their faith.  He then rebuked the wind and waves and instantly the sea was calm.  Can you see them rising in amazement, looking at each other, and saying “Who is this man?”

So when we face difficulties in our lives, we can go to Jesus and make our fears known.  And, even if the storms continues, He will be there with us… to comfort us… to see us through to the end.
